This week we learned some things about technology, like how to use Weebly. Well, we were taught about it but I struggle with technology so I can't really say that I learned it. I'm not sure I could make a new Weebly again if I was asked to...I'm also not really sure how I managed to successfully start this blog. What did I click to get here?
Anyway, we also learned the basics of the class since it was the first week. We don't spend a lot of time in the classroom because it can be restricting, Schoenborn reads a poem at the beginning of every class just for us to listen to and not to pull apart and examine. I was happy to learn that our independent reading must be literature; I love literature. I can't wait to start reading!
One thing that I was very satisfied with was yesterday, when we got into groups to talk about Literature as it compares to commercial fiction, the people I talked with took it seriously and we actually had a good discussion. It wasn't ground-breaking or anything, but it was nice to have other people take it seriously too. I got a good feeling about this class and the people in it that I'll actually be encouraged to truly learn. That kind of encouragement is hard to find these days.
You know what else is encouraging? The forums with the CMU English class. AP Lit and Comp makes me feel like a person, not a child, and I'm very grateful for that. It pleases me to know that these college students want to share ideas with us high school students. Knowing that the person you're sharing with actually cares to hear your ideas really makes a difference. I don't speak up much in other classes because I know my peers don't care. I don't get that feeling in this class.
All in all, I'm excited for this year and this class! I'm ready to get this thing rolling and start in on the literature and composition. Thank goodness the first week introductory stuff is basically over! Time to rock!
